Maintenance of Your Car
The first time I purchased a car a few years ago
, I was so excited. Sure, I had driven cars before, and I had even had my own car before, but it wasn't the same as actually "owning" your own car for the first time. When you own a car, it makes you feel incredibly adult-like. Finally, you are really responsible for something. However, when it comes to buying a car, you always want to make sure that you have deliberately thought about the decision that you are making, because choosing the wrong car can ultimately make your life incredibly uncomfortable if you don't know what you are getting into.
What most first-time car buyers fail to realize is that there is a lot more money that has to go into owning a car versus the price that you actually see on the car of your dreams when it is sitting stationary in the parking lot of a dealership. For starters, when you go to a dealership and you browse through the cars, you've already made one mistake. Before you even get to the dealership, you should have done research online to find out what car you can actually afford. Once you narrow down your choices of makes and models to those that you can reasonably fit into your budget, you have to then think about your budget based on the make and model of the car you are thinking about. For instance, if you figure that you can afford a Hummer for its sticker price, you also have to take into consideration the fact that once you get the vehicle home, you will have to keep up with regular maintenance such as filling it up with gasoline and taking it in for regular maintenance such as oil changes, etc.
On a more expensive vehicle such as an SUV or other type of higher end car, some of the regular maintenance can be expensive. What if your car breaks down and you realize that you need to order a part for it? Certain types of cars, because of where they are manufactured, will always be more pricey when you take them in for maintenance. Also, you want to double check to see what the resale value is on the vehicle that you are trying to purchase. Depending on the car that you buy, you will have a more difficult time getting rid of it when you are looking around at buying a new car.
All of these things are items that you want to take into consideration before you purchase a new car. What other sorts of issues can you see as being problematic when you try to sell your car back or purchase a different type of vehicle? You may find out in the long run that the car of your dreams is simply that: a dream. It is much better (and wiser) to think more realistically about purchasing a vehicle for the first time. Don't buy based on emotion. We all like certain types of cars; however, depending on what our daily lives and schedules dictate, it may not always be a smart choice for us to purchase the car that we like.
