This can be frustrating, but you may be able to get beyond having to pay for part of the work by doing some of the repair yourself. Be sure that you talk to the insurance company about the possibility before doing so.

One of the major problems that can occur when you have water damage in the home is the development of mold. There are mold removal companies that can be called on to take care of this problem, as it can be quite serious. You should know that in most states, it is going to be necessary for the mold remediation to take place by a professional that is licensed for that purpose. If you have a small area that has become moldy, it may be possible for you to do the work yourself but it will not be covered under your insurance policy. Incidentally, mold remediation companies can often handle other types of problems that can occur in the home. These can range from repairing fire damage to doing crime scene clean up in your area.

Some of the damage that is caused by the water may be unseen to human eyes. For example, if you have a water leak from an existing pipe in your kitchen or bathroom, much of the damage could be underneath or behind the cabinets. This would not only allow for the growth of mold to occur, it would also allow the insurance claim to be closed before all of the work was done. Be sure that you are very thorough in your investigation so that all of the problems resulting from the water damage are taken care of at one time.

It can be very stressful when you are in a situation where you have water damage in the home. If your insurance company is willing to work with you, you may be able to get the problem resolved fairly quickly. Don't be afraid to call the insurance company regularly, however, if they are slow to react. It will help to move your case along more quickly in many cases.
