These words spell out "A great miracle occurred there." In Israel, the words on the dreidels are Nes, gadol, haya, and peh, which means "A great miracle occurred here." Dreidel begins with all players in a circle and placing one game piece (pennies, gelts or other small prizes) in the center as the pot. During the course of the game, if the pot becomes empty or only has one piece left, all of the players should add one piece. The player spinning the dreidel either takes the whole pot, half the pot, none of the pot, or adds to the pot, depending on where the dreidel lands. Different versions of the driedel game exist.
