Make A Wireless Printer Network In Only 10 Minutes

Not long ago it proved a tedious and daunting task to set up a wireless network - certainly not a matter of minutes. A proper job for geeky looking teenagers with mysterious

skin diseases and funny looking electronic gizmos that no one really understood the actual use of, and that no one bothered to invite for the company's parties.

Enough with the nineties - now is now, and now thankfully it's much much easier to set up multiple PC's in a wireless network.

The first step is to determine where to place the printer. We're dealing with people here and people have a tendency to get lazy, so finding a good spot for the printer is alpha and omega. After all we don't want people to have to run too far for their printouts.

Step 2 involves deciding if you want to go for Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Some computers and printers are equipped with both and the main difference is really the range of

connectivity. Don't be alarmed if you possess a slightly outdated computer. If it supports USB you can just purchase a suitable adapter.

As we move on to step 3, access the control panel named "Network settings" --> "Local Area Network". Go to "General" and click "Properties". Find "Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" and put a small "v" in the box next to it.

Step 4 - switch on the PCs that you want to join the wireless network printer. Remember to click the "turn on wireless networking"-button - it usually makes a small blue led lightening at the front of your pc.

Still working from each PC, and still assuming that they all have Windows XP or Vista installed, enter the control panel "Printers and Faxes" --> "Sharing", tick the radio

button "Share this printer".

This last step is not really a step but just a reminder that it's quite important to be interested in maintaining the Wi-Fi in order to be able to fix it, should one or more of the PCs loose connection. The secret is not to be passionate about wireless networking but merely an interest in keeping it working. Be sure to specify a printer name to allow the router to better identify it, otherwise you might have to do the setup once again in case of power failure.
