Obviously, it is now more important than ever that you differentiate yourself as a brand that the market wants to do business with, both initially but even more importantly on a continuing basis.

Email marketing is the most effective way that there is to maintain contact with both prospects and existing customers. To get access to your customers email inbox at practically zero cost is a privilege that old time direct marketers would drool at the prospect of, so maximise your opportunity and plan your email sales campaign to the best of your ability.


As you will know, the first thing you must do is get their attention, and bring them to your website. Its a bit like dating a girl. There are certain things that you must do at the beginning to get their attention.

Now that you've got their attention, they've even opted in, and given you their name and email you want to genuinely reward them with something. That's the deal, you promise, they give and now its your turn. So far, so good.

This is only the beginning of the relationship. Ultimately, its a game of give and take, but just like in relationships if you're totally obvious about it, its not going to work.

You have to learn to develop and build rapport with your list, your customer base deliberately and consistently, and one of the best ways to do this is with surprises, particularly with no strings attached. Everyone loves surprises, so ingratiate yourself with your list with spontaneous (or so they would appear) bonus video clips, CDs, DVDs, free reports etc. Do this without asking for something in the same email, and you will both dramatically increase your email open rate, as well as your click through/offer response rate.

So develop a personality in your emails. Humanise yourself, use humour and tantalise them with surprise bonuses and free gifts, in exchange for maintaining contact with you and receiving your emails, responding to time sensitive special offers etc.

If you can remember that its a relationship, and communicate in a way that reflects this, your results can only but improve. So measure and keep score, and rack up the sales.
