I had the following items rattling around at the bottom
Covert audio recording pen
Mini voice recorder
Temperature probe
Digital camera
iPhone
Receipts envelope
Stop watch
Mystery shopping note book - absolutely essential
GPS
The usual paraphernalia such as lipsticks and pens
I simply could not fit in my digital weighing scales so something had to go. One of the down sides of covert work is that there is quite a lot of equipment to carry around. It is always worth asking a friend to check that nothing is visible or just making sure that you check yourself and your bag in a full length mirror before heading out.
If you do get spotted or asked if you are a mystery shopper, just say nothing and look puzzled. Do report this to the mystery shopping company afterward in case it comes up and you get penalised for not having brought it up.
Keep your notes for a minimum of 3 months after a shop, unless otherwise stated, in case you need to refer back to them. Keep all receipts and record them with your accounts as they are tax deductible.
