Its form factor allows it to be placed on a desktop or just about any available surface capable of supporting its weight of 53 pounds. But because of this weight, moving it from spot to spot may be impractical. It measures 16.7 inches x 16.5 inches x 17 inches (W x D x H). Choosing a printer matching the furnishings of an office is important to maintain a cohesive look. Fortunately, it's available in midnight gray and ion silver that can go well with most other colors and furnishings.

The performance if this machine is influenced by the 300-MHz processor within it. Monochrome printing speed is 25 pages per minute. On the other hand, color printing speed is 5 pages per minute. However, printing speeds will vary with actual use. An optical resolution of up to 600 x 600 dots per inch is enough to produce sharp details and vibrant colors each time.

The 3000cn utilizes a 4-cartridge system, and even ships with 2K black, 1K yellow, 1K magenta, 1K cyan. Monthly duty cycle is set by Dell at 20,000 to 49,999 prints to ensure optimal performance. Monthly duty volume is set at 45,000 pages, making this machine ideal for a small workgroup.

It has a combined media handling capacity of 900 sheets. Supported media sizes are extensive, including letter, legal, executive, folio, statement, A4, A5 and JIS-B5. Media types which can be handled include plain paper, card stock, transparencies, envelopes and others. An optional auto-duplex unit can help in meeting output demands and conservation of supplies at it provides two-sided printing at once.

Hooking up this machine to the office network is hassle-free with the available 10/100 BaseT Ethernet port. Additionally, there are other connectivity options such as high-speed USB 2.0 and parallel IEEE1284 for easy attaching to a PC. With the Dell Printer Web Tool, an administrator can setup, install and configure the machine right away. Since it's a web-based tool, internet hookup is necessary to be able to use it.

There are a couple more tools included for maximizing the functionality of this office equipment. The Dell Cartridges Management System allows for monitoring toner and consumables. For instance, an e-mail alert is sent to the administrator if the toner runs out, and also provides easy replacement ordering online. Then there's also the Dell Color Track that allows for lowered total cost by designating specific printing conditions to a workstation or the entire workgroup.
