Make Your Home Spa Function Throughout The Winter

The number one adversary of a home spa is snow

. The icy weather can affect your home spa and not preparing it for the winter can wreck your investment. Sadly, many people are not aware of this risk and suffer due to costly repairs that could have been prevented. In some cases, people know better, but due to carelessness and neglect, their home spas suffer irreparable damage and they become a conversation piece. To eliminate this problem, never allow your home spa to freeze to death! To use it for many years to come, here are some tips to follow.

Start by unplugging your home spa from the power outlet or turn it off with the circuit breaker. Remove the thermal cover and water from the spa by connecting a garden hose to the bottom drain spout of your home spa. You can also pump the water out with a submersible pump or vacuum.

Afterwards, leave the drain spout open. Switch off the heater, change the thermal cover and reconnect the power cord of your home spa or power on the circuit breaker. Allow the air blower to work for about 30 seconds to a minute in order to eliminate the remaining water.

In the absence of an air blower, remove the cover and eliminate the remaining water inside with towels, a mop or a vacuum: Be sure to take out all the water. Remove the cartridge filter of your home spa and inspect the filter canister compartment for water. Leave a large cloth towel at the bottom of the footwell to absorb any water left.

Before storing your filter, examine it for dirt. If you find any, soak the filter in a cleaning solution. Dry it before you store it. If your filter is over a year old, throw it away. Never reuse dirty filters. Finally trip the ground fault circuit interrupter by pressing the "Test" button. Turn off the circuit breaker again and unplug your home spa.
