Make Your Swim Wear Last Longer
Swim suits are made out of a special material to endure harsh chemicals
. Nevertheless they require extra attention. Unlike your normal clothes, they should not be put in the washing machine otherwise they could face irreparable damage. With summer around the corner, you will want to use your swim suits everyday, hence with proper care your favorite bathing suits can last much longer without fading. Here are some tips for you to follow, if you want to keep your swim suits in tip top condition.
Cleaning process
As soon as you get out of the pool or the beach, rinse the suit in cold water to remove all the sand, chlorine, sweat etc. In a sink, pour some cold water and add a few drops of gentle soap lotion, detergent or a product specifically made for cleaning swim wear. Let the suit soak for 30 minutes. Now run cold water through the suit till it runs clear and has no soap residue, doing this in a shower or bath tub will be easier. Squeeze out the excess water from the suit gently, do not wring or twist. Lay it over a dry towel so that the excess moisture, if any, is absorbed by it and lay it flat on the towel. This way you get to maintain your swim suit's color and shape. Swim suits that have embroidery, beads, etc, need to be handled carefully. Avoid washing your bathing suit in the washing machine, as it will cause severe damage to the sensitive material and reduce the life.
Drying
Whatever you do, do not hang or leave your swim suit out in the sun, this will cause it to lose its shape and fade away quickly. Instead, leave it to dry naturally. Air dry is the best method. Never dry the suit in the dryer, it will break down the elasticity of the material.
Fading
If you want to save your swim suits from fading, there is a solution for that as well. Take a basin and fill it with lukewarm water, add mild detergent, and one teaspoon of mild fabric cleaner. Dilute this with lots of water, this way they won't damage the bath wear. Make sure the water is not too hot, and very diluted.
Do's and Dont's
Remember to use only a liquid detergent not a powder.
You can use a baby shampoo, or other gentle shampoos instead of a liquid detergent.
Bleaching or ironing your swim suit is a strict no-no
Beware of using suntan and other lotions on your swim suit. These stains may become permanent if not taken care of immediately.
Never wear a wet bathing suit, it can cause health risks.
The bacteria and chemicals are invisible, hence make sure your swim suit is completely clean before drying.
If you are someone who requires swim suits everyday, invest in many. This way you will give your swim wear a complete chance to dry before using them again.
Do not hang your swim suit on the hanger, it may stretch the garment.
Always wash the bathing suit as soon as you finish swimming. This way lotion, sand or chemicals wont settle into your bathing suit.
Every swim suit has specific instructions for cleaning and preventing discoloration. Read through the tag inside your swim suit and wash accordingly.
Never wring a swimsuit dry unless you like stretched out or ruined swimsuits.
If it is not possible to wash them by hand at times, clean the suit in the washing machine on a delicate, cold wash cycle.
If it has straps, decorations or strings it is always better to hand wash it.
