Make Your Website Easy To Navigate

There are a lot of factors to consider when creating and designing a website

. One important factor, and one that is occasionally overlooked, is making sure the user is able to easily navigate through the site. Here are some tips to make your site easy to move through.

Give The User Options Include navigation bars on the top and the side, or on the side and the bottom. You may always look at a certain area to find where to go next, but someone else may be used to seeing links in a different area.

Make Each Page Look the Same They obviously don't have to be exactly the same, but it should never feel like they've been transferred to completely different website. By keeping each page of your website similar, they should be able to stay relatively comfortable regardless of the page they end up on.

Let Them Know Where They Are Each page should prominently display where they are on your site - about, home, contact, products, etc. Part of not getting lost is knowing exactly where you are, so making sure your user knows where they are will help.


Don't Have Vague Links When including a link in your website, the user should not wonder where it's going to take them. Ambiguous text will only confuse a user and cause them to want to leave your site altogether.

Name Pages What They Are Use easily recognizable words like "home," "about," and "services." Being clever or cute will only make the user unsure about what purpose that page serves.

Avoid an "Artsy" Feel Unless you've got an design site or something similar, try to steer clear of icons that move around a lot or maybe blend in too much. If you're not in an industry that merits it, it's okay that your site probably won't win any design awards.

No Broken Links Test every link, every page, and every click periodically. Make sure a link takes the user where they're supposed to go, and that there's something for them when they get there.

When it comes down to it, you should always keep the user in mind when developing a site. Even if there's something you really want or like, if your potential customers don't it will only hurt business. That being said, test everything. Go with something you like, and if sales improve then keep it. If not, then switch it back.
