Make Yourself A Home Office Haven
For the past two years or so, I have been fortunate enough to work from home
, but sometimes I find it really difficult to focus. The reasons for this are varied, but often, I know I need to feel relaxed in order to put my mind into my work. That is why I have set about making my home office a personal haven. If you would like more focus and relaxation in your in-home workspace, then you can benefit from my tips.
A place for everything and everything in its place: any office needs plenty of storage room, so utilize existing areas designated for just such a purpose, such as a closet or a wardrobe. Your desk should also serve both form and function.
The desk I recently purchased not only provides a surface for my multiple computers (yes, I have more than one), it also provides shelving to house my printer, (some of) my books, my electronic accessories, and more. It even has an attached whiteboard, convenient for brainstorming and list making. Made of a sturdy wood, stained in darkest black, it is also striking and draws eyes for its beauty.
Give yourself what you need to survive in your office. I know there have been times when I've had pressing project deadlines that kept me virtually locked in there for days, but I found it a hassle when I had to rush downstairs to fix lunch or retire to the bedroom for a snooze.
That is why I elected to invest in a small refrigerator to fit snugly against my desk and a sleek, comfortable sofa for the other side of the room. I don't want to live inside of my home office, but these new fixtures make it possible for me to get what I need without completely detaching from the project at hand. I can now reach for a bottle of water without needing sufficient motivation to head downstairs and then have to worry about dishes accumulating in the office.
Speaking of accumulating dishes, do be sure to keep your home office as orderly as possible. I find that when clutter is strewn about, I am unable to focus as well as I might when my workspace is tidy. You ought to keep it sufficiently lit as well, so make sure that blinds or curtains are easily drawn back and light fixtures have the appropriate bulbs and are kept relatively dust-free. Trust me, it will make a significant impact on how well you work. Just put that to the test!
