Making A Router With Your Laptop

Laptops have become extremely popular because they are so versatile

. They are portable, small, lightweight, and come with an array of built in devices and programs. The equipment that is built into them makes it easy to connect to the Internet.

This may not seem like a logical thing to do as it basically grounds your laptop, but if you're in a bind it really does work. It is able to do this because of its wireless capabilities that are built into it. With a couple chords and a basic network hub, you can have your network up and running in no time.

In order to have your laptop function as a router you will need to have an original wireless router already set up. Aside from this, you will need Ethernet chords and a network hub. The hub will create a new network and the laptop will transfer the Internet signal to it.

First you will need to locate or buy Ethernet chords. Many times people have these just lying around the house. If you don't they are pretty inexpensive.

Once you have these chords, plug one into your laptop. The other end of this chord will plug into one of the outlets on the hub/switch. The other chord will plug into your other computer with the other end again plugged into an outlet on the hub/switch.

Now you will set up your new network. This is very easy to do on a laptop. The laptop may even have guides or an automatic set up already for you. Once that is taken care of, simply connect your laptop to the wireless.

This will transmit the Internet from your basic cable modem all the way to your other computer. It will also pass through your laptop and hub/switch. You will eventually want to get another separate router for your computer or your laptop will have to sit there acting as a router.

This information may not be useful to you right now, but there may come a time when it will be valuable to know. It will not serve as a permanent router and will need to be replaced with one if you want it to remain. However, just the fact that a laptop can perform this function is pretty amazing.
