Though elegant and top quality scrapbooks can be a nice thing to have
, from time to time all you want is a fast and affordable method for creating a fun scrapbook. These little clear plastic bag scrapbooks are fantastic to make as a children's project. These books can even make a wonderful present for other relatives who want to see some photos of your family members. Kids can even learn a whole lot about saving photos through this activity. You can even take some photos from picture frames around your house to place in your album. Make a few of these simple little books today, and let the picture fun begin.
Resources Needed
To be able to create a scrapbook from plastic bags, you'll have to get a container of gallon clear plastic bags that zip closed. Make sure you find plain bags, rather than ones with markings on the front. You'll also need two pieces of lightweight cardboard, cut to the size of 12 x 12 inches square. Get together some scrapbook paper, or perhaps some affordable craft paper instead, specifically if your children will be participating in this activity. You will also need a ruler, glue sticks, scissors, a stapler, hole punch, yarn needle, some assorted markers, and a big nail and hammer. Plus, of course you will need a nice selection of photos. Use printed off digital photos for children, instead of using the original prints of film photos. If your album is meant for one of your relatives, it may be best to choose pictures that are good enough quality to exhibit in scrapbook picture frames. Kids, however, are generally happy with any kind of photos.
Making The Book
You may want to assemble the book for yourself if you are making the book as an activity for your kids. Decide how many pages you want, and select that same number of plastic bags. Join them by stapling 5 bags all together along the left side, with the zip lock opening along the top edge. If you wish to have more than 5 pages, create more page sections. Place one of the cardboard covers on a padded work surface, with a section of plastic bags on top. Pound holes about an inch apart through the bags and the cover, using the hammer and the nail. Do it again with the other cover and the remaining plastic bag sections. Place the sections of bags in between the covers, line them up with the holes matching up, and then stitch it all together with the needle and a piece of yarn, then simply knot the ends together when you are done. Score all along the bound edges of the back and front covers of the book using the ruler to guide you, and then you will be able to fold them back. When you accomplish this the book will open with little effort.
Adding The Photos
When the book is put together, the fun can begin. Give your child a stack of photos and craft or scrapbook paper sized to fit inside the bags. They may then use round-tipped scissors, glue or adhesive squares and coloring implements to make interesting pages. When their scrapbook pages are complete, simply slide them into the bag pages and zip shut. You might want to take a little extra time and care if you plan on giving the scrapbook as a gift. These books are great because the pages are so easy to open and close that it makes it nice and easy to swap photos back and forth between your book and picture frames.
Your kids are sure to have fun with these fun and easy scrapbooks that will allow them to show off their favorite pictures to you and your relatives.
