While the holiday season looms larger everyday

, many of us are trying to find ways to attend all the holiday get togethers, purchase all the gifts, and visit all the friends and family we want without breaking the bank. Unfortunately, that's become harder to do since the economic recession. While we're trying to stretch our pennies (or even earn extra ones), most companies are looking to cut back on benefits, cut back on hours, and cut back on expenses.

The irony is that many companies' attempts to save money may actually result in your ability to earn extra money. Many companies have discovered that employing telecommuters to work from home saves them more money than the hiring full time employees to do the same job. The jobs tend to be phone based - phone sales, sales verifications, customer service, customer satisfaction follow up calls - so they can all be successfully completed from the comfort of one's home.

This is good news for us - it means that there are actual legitimate work at home jobs available for people who are trying to support this year's Christmas list, or even those who are simply looking for ways to make ends meet. The problem is finding these jobs. If you turn to the Internet in an attempt to search out "legitimate work at home jobs," you'll most likely find thousands of ads and websites dedicated to promoting programs "guaranteed" to make you a large income in a short period of time.

These programs are often nothing more than Google profit scams - programs laden with personal claims from "customers" who have quit their jobs and made thousands of dollars using this "tried-and-true" system. And despite the fact that many people are getting rich from this system, the honorable and generous creator of the program has decided to share his secrets with perfect strangers for the low, low price of... fill in the blank.

Many of these Google profit scams have the same characteristics, which makes it slightly easier to identify them. First, look for explicit details on what is included in the program, and what the program will be training you to do. Most of these bogus programs provide very little detail on what the program actually is. Second, the previously mentioned "personal" testimonies, which happen to be as vague as the sales page itself, and finally, and promises of making large amounts of money in short periods of time.

But if you're just looking for a supplemental income, then purchasing an "at home business opportunity" isn't what you should be looking for anyway. The information you find seek will not be about a "training program" or "opportunity" - it should be an application the same as any other real worlds job. When trying to find the honest, legitimate work at home jobs a good rule of thumb is to not pay out money. If a company is genuinely interested in hiring telecommuters, they won't require you to pay a third party for application privileges.
