There are so many affiliate marketing programs and sites out there advertising "fast money"

, such as "you can make $5,000 your first week!" Is this really possible?

First of all, getting involved in affiliate marketing is very similar to any other business venture. It takes great determination, time, and work. Initially you will most likely have to put out a little money before you see any kind of return. That is just the way it works.

When first staring out in online marketing, you will have to first design your site or blog, or both. Along with that is selecting a field for the products, services, and or programs that you want to advertise through your affiliate site. Then comes choosing good solid keywords, site optimization, and finally, trying to get some traffic to your site or blog. If you decide to save money at first and do not use paid advertising, then it will take a little more work in order to get your site or blog on the first page of search engines. When this is finally done, you will start seeing more site traffic and should begin making some money from your site.

So, back to the original question, can you make thousands of dollars in a week with a brand new affiliate site. My answer to that would be no. As the old saying goes, "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't". Is there money to be made in online marketing? Yes, of course, but it typically takes weeks, sometimes months, before a new site is up and running and seeing a more steady flow of traffic. There are many marketers out there that run there affiliate sites as their full time job, and are making very good money at it. However, it didn't happen overnight. With much time and effort, affiliate marketing is profitable; just do not expect to get rich in a few weeks time.
