Making Money With A Blog-does It Still Work?

I would like to suggest that one of the best ways to make money online is starting a blog

. This does still work and for many of us this is the best way to get started even with all of the changes Google has made in the last year.

This is especially true in two instances.

1. Local businesses.

2. Micro niches.

If you don't have a local business to promote you can ignore item number one. If you do a local business to promote setting up a blog as your primary website, and adding content to it is a fast way to increase your business and rank quickly on Google.

Micro niches are something that affiliate marketers, network marketers, and anyone promoting something online can get into. Blogs work very well for this and you can rank very quickly for targeted keyword phrases in a micro-niche.

This is true because there just isn't the amount of competition, so you can rank much faster. Google is not going to pay as much attention to you as you they might if you are in a more broad or competitive niche. Therefore once you rank for your targeted keyword phrases you can maintain them easier as well.

Here are the steps to getting started.

1. Setting up a blog is not hard to do. You can use the Blogspot option which is owned by Google and is free to set up. This takes no technical experience at all.

If you want to host your own domain name you can do that. Host Gator is a good place to get started. You can also quickly set up your blog with the free Fantastico program that they have.

2. You can monetize your blog with Google Adsense. You can also add affiliate programs from networks such as Clickbank or Commission Junction. Amazon is another good source of affiliate products.

3. Content. When you're dealing with micro-niches or local businesses you don't need to add content as regularly as you might in a more competitive niche. This makes blogging easier to do.

You can also go to a writing sites such as iWriter and pick up articles without spending a lot of money. Even an article every week, or z couple times a month will impress Google and be enough to help you maintain your rankings for your primary keyword phrases.

4. Exit strategy. Once your blog is making money you can sell it at Flippa.com

A blog earning $100 a month is going to sell for around $1000. This gives you an exit strategy if you grow tired of your blog and don't want to maintain it anymore.
