Making Paintings Out Of Dogs

This female portraitist encounters dilemmas every time she needs to work on her adorable yet unpredictable subjects

. Mostly well bred subjects greet her but she will never be able to get them posing as courteously as mother did for whistler. These eager little clients are always raging to be out and about, signaling when the sitting will be over, giving the lady portraitist a very short while to pore through and assess his exquisite features then off he goes after a short, loud bark or maybe a scratch at a flea he thinks he has.

The best manner of capturing dogs into her portraits is with the help of an instant camera and she does so at the second floor of her nice 67 year old home which she and her husband stay in. Cats and dogs appear in her portrait but she has noticed that there are some posers that stand out. Superior posers are the thoroughbreds who have experienced dog shows and have been well trained but they also seem to be quite vain with how they look like.

Thoroughbreds are mostly in her clientele roster. The superior skeletal structure and coat shades of thoroughbreds are far easier to paint than most mongrels. Purebred hounds which have defined body structure and short hair, are her favorite muses. Apart from that, the expression of these dogs are wonderful and she loves capturing them.

She is a local observatory technical illustrator during the week and she also is adept with creating breathtaking landscapes with water color as medium of choice. Some of her works are being shown in a famous gallery. In New York City learning institute, she took up a course that led her to be a magazine illustrator. The reason she first tried her paints on dogs was because this was recommended by one of her professors.

As a true animal lover, she would go around New York and using first hand information, she would carefully study and sketch the most wonderful breeds. Her very first commission was to do a portrait of a dog owned by a rich dowager in New York city. The felice signed canine was mounted beautifully upon a very artsy frame and soon was hung next to the lady dowager's original works of art from Rembrandt and Frans Hals. Very shortly afterward, she released a sketch book with her description and studies the American kennel club's acknowledged breeds and it was received well by so many people.

Any serious artist would fall in love with the studio found on the second floor and this was what she did when her family moved into California back in the year 1913, in a Pasadena craftsman's home. This the sole place chosen by fond dog owners to bring their wondrous furry pals to be preserved in art for posterity. Charcoal and oil are second options for this lady who likes to depict her canine clients in pastels. She gets work more than what she can bear with during the Christmas season.

Flattering her animal subjects a bit is also something she admits to the way most painters of human beings would. Hounds whose bloodline reach as far back as the time of ancient Persia and Egypt known as salukis are being bred by her and her husband who is a retired electrical engineer.
