One really useful feature I like in Windows 7 Explorer is the ability to change the details view of a file. By default whenviewing afile in Exploreryou will see thedate modified, type and size -but there are many other options which can help you to manage your files and folders in a more personalized and useful way.
I like to see when a file was created for example and i can then filter my results. If there are multiple authors of documents you can ask Windows Explorer to show this detail in the columns. You can also use the left click and drag function to realign the order in which columns are presented.
If you open the VIEW menu in Windows Explorer the options will be limited to the type of document or folder you have open. The pictures or music folder will have different viewing options than the documents folder. This can be very useful for fine tuning a folder collection in the Explorer viewing panes.
Another feature I find useful is showing comments on a file when viewing in Explorer. Too add a comment to a Word document select the document in the window and write in your comment or tags in the lower pane.
To configure the file and folder view options in Windows Explorer:
1. Open Explorer and look for the top left menu showing FILE | VIEW | TOOLS |HELP
2. If this is not available use the ORGANIZE | LAYOUT | MENU tab to enable the menu
3. Choose VIEW from the top menu, choose SORT BYand select the boxes for the details you wish to use.
