Making Your Workplace Less Dreadful

Let's face it - working is no holiday on the beach

. It's something we spend most of our lives doing, it becomes a real rat race. Did you know that on the average, we devote 70% of our lives to our careers? That means we spend the majority of our lives confined to the office, and this can be quite depressing.

There are several things you can do however to make your tiny office space a lot more appealing, and a better environment in which to work. If you clean up the clutter on your desk, and tailor your space to suit you, it can make a world of difference and also increase your productivity.

Now that your work area is clean and organized, we can begin to add a few personalized touches to improve your 9 to 5 experience. There is no doubt that the workplace needs to be professional, but it doesn't have to be impersonal. After all, you spend most of your time sitting at your desk so it makes sense to brighten it up a little. Time to make it your own.

Having a couple of pictures reminding you of your loved ones can be a source of inspiration especially when you're feeling down or you're stressed out about your deadlines at work. Get a couple of brightly colored and uniquely styled picture frames and set it by your desk. Find a source of inspiration and make it the centerpiece on your desk.

Computer screen wall papers are another thing that can help greatly. Ever dreamed of going somewhere for holiday? Do you have a tropical island that you've never had the chance to visit? Well put it up on your wall paper or screen saver! This will not only inspire you but give you a goal to keep in mind - "one day, I'll be there". To add to the experience, try some soothing music or tropical wave sounds. Set them up on your iPod or music player to "shuffle" throughout the day. Music really helps time fly by.

There are so many things you can do to make your workplace a more enticing one. These tips are only the tip of the iceberg. Try picking up a couple of good Feng Shui magazines to give you further ideas on how to customize your desk area to promote a positive energy flow.
