Manage Your Online Marketing and Reap the Rewards
Someone once said, "If your business is not worth being advertised, advertise it for sale." To many of us, running our business takes precedence over everything else. Marketing is relegated to the status of "afterthought," or just doesn't get done. Yet, online marketing is one of the most crucial functions in your business, and you need to MANAGE it with a solid online marketing plan.
When marketing online, planning is the only way to get the results you want: more activity, clients, sales and profits. Investing the time to create your online marketing plan and then following the plan consistently will work for you, and is more than worth the effort it takes to get it done.
When planning your online marketing strategy, begin with these "must haves":
Ezine: This is the primary vehicle that brings you to your target market, and points them toward your website, sales page, Facebook page or blog. Decide how often you will publish your ezine (no more than once a week is best). Put the dates in your calendar and stick to them. Choose your topics ahead of time, and link them to relevant events, news topics, or business trends, so they are timely. Including an editorial calendar in your plan is a good idea. Determine themes/topics/resources in advance, and date and schedule them in your calendar.
Blogging: Decide how often you will commit to blog. Again, make sure your topics are relevant and useful to your readers - they should be more than just your commentary on something, they should start a larger conversation with your target market. Solicit comments on your blog to invite this conversation to happen, and to gauge interest in your posts. Link your blog to your website, ezine, and social media pages (Facebook, etc).
Social Media: How much time will you spend on Facebook and twitter? Chances are, you may be there a lot already, but you should really compartmentalize this time so that you are not spending TOO much time on Facebook. Document your plan and then schedule the time in your calendar. Aim to make relevant posts 2 - 3 times a day. Be sure your posts are not just sales pitches, or they will come off as spam. Again, relate your posts to your current ezine and blog topics for consistency, and to point people toward your ezine and blog. Making regular "tips" based on your expertise and what your target market needs is important, also.
Article Submissions: Article marketing cannot be overlooked. By submitting articles to sites like Ezine Articles, you brand yourself as an industry expert, boost your page rank and website traffic with links pointing to your site, promote new services, products, and affiliate programs, and get free advertising through your resource box. Try to submit at least one article a week. If you don't have time to write a unique article each week, submit the ezine article you have already written to article sites.
Press Release creation and submission: Like article submission, submitting press releases to online distribution sites boosts your page rank and visibility with links and distribution. It also may score you some free press! Most press release submission sites offer a free distribution service, but you may also want to consider a paid service that offers more links, photos, and priority distribution.
Joint Ventures: Don't dismiss the benefits of doing joint ventures with other entrepreneurs. Whether it be creating a product together to then sell to both groups of followers, or working together on a teleseries, or ecourse - creating connections for joint ventures is an important addition to your online marketing plan.
Remember - creating the plan is only half the battle. You must implement the plan, too. If it makes sense (and it usually does) to delegate much of the online marketing out - DO it. But don't let your online marketing go by the wayside!
