Managing An Exam Failure: Steps To Undertake For A Change

Preparation for exams is usually a hard and challenging period of all students lives

because they have to learn discipline, deprivation of some fun time, consultation with teachers and group-mates and simply understanding and learning a great range of things needed for a pass. There are students with different grades, and all of them expect different outcomes of their studies: some students are not ready to put up with any mark but an A; other students only need a pass because they do not want to retake an exam or they are of an average opinion about their own academic skills. However, there is hardly anyone who is ready to fail an exam. Nonetheless, things happen and there are always a certain percentage of students who do not pass. What should they do, how should they perceive their failure, and how can they live with what has happened?

Failing an Exam What to Do Next?

1. The results have been announced, and some students see that they are not in the list of the lucky ones who passed. The first reaction is shame and embarrassment, thoughts about how to inform parents about the failure etc. The next feeling that comes very soon afterwards may be a deep depression and reduction of self-esteem. Despite the discouraging news, students have to understand that the failure has to be the beginning for correction of mistakes and not dooming themselves to eternal failure.

2. It is essential to understand that the reason for a failure first to be able to get a pass next time. If the student had no time to study, he or she should plan the exam preparation more thoroughly; if the reasons were lack of motivation and wish to study, the student should realize the importance of getting an exam grade and get more engaged in studies again
