Managing The Frequent Heartburns When Suffering From Asthma

This modern era of living and fast track of life have made all of us used to eating outside unhealthy foods and untimely eating habits as a result the body actually faces many problems related to our digestive systems and many others. Heartburn is also one of the common faced problem occurred these days. The burning of chest is called heartburn which is caused by the back flow of stomach acid into ones esophagus.
This back flow is called acid reflux. In acute stages where one may suffer with chronic heartburn, one may have Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease that is also referred as (GERD). GERD is very commonly found with people who suffer from asthma, and in fact in general population this is actually found more commonly. If one may experience coughing, choking, or wheezing during the night hours these symptoms do may result in experiencing GERD. GERD may trigger asthma symptoms, as a result these asthma symptoms and its management may worsen GERD.
Many studies have found a relationship between bronchospasms and acidic reflux, but addition to these relations one may consider that there are several other influencing factors that explain the higher rate of GERD among people with asthma. One should take care to notice and keep a follow up with the factors influencing the same. Theophylline usage is another factor which actually influence and increase stomach acid. However, one main point to be considered is the fact that one should not stop the usage of any medications without consulting to ones heath care provider first so as to not face any problems later.
How to Manage It
Frequent heartburn and poor control over asthma symptoms require your immediate response. Contact your health care provider as soon as possible so that he or she observes your condition thoroughly. He or she may suggest you some tests to figure out the cause of your heartburn or any signs of GERD. In the case of heartburn or GERD, the physicians or doctors usually prescribe medicines that hold back the production of acid and help to prevent acid reflux. However, there are different medicines available in drug stores which are formulated to suppress the acid; it is recommended to use medication only under the advice of your physician or doctor.
Prevention
Following are given the preventative measures for heartburn. By bearing them in mind, you can prevent heartburn to some extent:
-Don"t lie down immediately after eating.
-Don"t eat anything at least 3 hours before going to bed.
-Don"t eat too much, keep your meals small and don"t eat in haste. Eat slowly and chew the food well before swallowing.
-It is better to raise the head of the bed by 6-8 inches.
-It is important to maintain weight according to your age, sex and height. Esophagus becomes under stress and pressure with overweight people.
