Goa, the mesmerizing land of enchanting attractions is famous the world over and attracts tourists in great number

. Margao is one of the beautiful destinations of Goa where you can savor Portuguese flavor and an old world charm. The striking features of this town are the Portuguese churches and traditional country houses with dark rosewood furniture. The Church of Holy Spirit and the caves of the Pandavas are among the main attractions of Margao.

Margoa is located in south Goa and is its important commercial center. Fishing and agriculture are the main trades here. It is the second largest city of the state. The mansions, beaches and scenic beauty are the other attractions of this destination. Although this place shows a great deal of Portuguese influence but it was at one point of time a Hindu religious center dotted with several temples and dharamshalas. It is said that the term Margoa has been derived from the word Mathgram meaning the village of temples'.

Main attractions of Margoa:

Colva Beach: The peaceful ambiance and scenic beauty of Colva beach makes it a must-visit destination. It is located 6 km from Margao city. At the beach you can indulge in delicious sea food. It is the longest beach (20 km in length) in Goa.


The Church of Holy Spirit: It is a famous church which was built by the Portuguese in 1675. It reflects a fine example of late-Baroque style of architecture. The interior of the church is beautifully decorated.

House of Seven Gables: This magnificent mansion speaks volumes about the glory of the Portuguese era in India. It was built in 1790 by Sebastino da Silva. There were seven gables in the mansion and now only three original gables are left.

Rachol Seminary: It is a popular attraction of Margoa built by the Portuguese in 1521. It was converted into a seminary in 1606 by the Portuguese king Sebastian.

Resting Caves of the Pandavas: It is a group of ancient caves now maintained by the Archeological Survey of India. It is believed that during the ancient time Pandavas rested in these caves.
