Marie Osmond Talks to Oprah Winfrey Regarding Son's Death: 'I Realized Something Was Wrong'

Nearly 9 months after her son's tragic death by committing suicide, Marie Osmond is at last opening up about her tragic loss. Osmond's 18-year-old son, Michael Blosil, took his own life by leaping off a L . a . apartment building in February. The performer, who adopted Michael with ex-husband Brian Blosil, advised Oprah of the tragedy, "I've been through some difficult things in my life [but] this really is probably the hardest thing I have been through."

Marie admitted to understanding her boy's plight, having suffered from post-partum depression herself. One of their last conversations was telling, she says. "When I heard him say to me 'I have no friends,' it brought back when I went through major depression," she mentioned. "Because you actually really feel so alone."

"I mentioned, 'Mike, I am heading to be there Monday, and it really is going to be OK,' however major depression does not wait until Monday."

Marie Osmond painfully remembered the night that Michael died, starting with a cellphone call from him just as she was heading on stage in the course of her Vegas show. She said that she was going via an outfit change when her cellphone rang. "I couldn't get to it," she admitted. Later on when she called him back, he didn't pick up.

"I feel in woman intuition. I especially feel in mother's intuition. I knew something was wrong."

She asked her daughter to stay with her that night within the hotel and at 2 AM the phone rang. On the other line was a security guard from her gated community. "[He] mentioned 'there are some individuals here to see you. It is the police I believe' ... He mentioned, 'well it is the coroner's office.'"

"I knew it was my son," she mentioned with tears streamong down her face.

Based on the police report, the time of death was about 9:30 PM. Marie advised Oprah that he called her about 45 minutes just before that. "You know some particulars are so in stone, other things are just like this wave that comes in and out of your heart. I've been through some challenging instances in my life, Oprah. This is possibly the most challenging issue I've have you been through."

When asked by Oprah if she believed things might have been completely different if she had just talked to Michael when he called, Marie Osmond answered by declaring, "I think if you live in 'what ifs,' you stop living."

While many media outlets have claimed that Michael's committing suicide stemmed from the conflict between his Mormon childhood and his reported homosexuality, Osmond rejected these allegations. "My son was not gay," she mentioned. "And it wouldn't matter if he was."

She added, "I know I'll see him once again simply because of what I feel."

She informed Oprah that Blosil begun abusing drugs when he was 12 and took numerous trips to rehab, nevertheless, she disputed any notion that narcotics played a role in his death.

"My son was clean when he jumped," she mentioned of the teen, who was a student at L.A.'s Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. "There had been no drugs in his system, but I feel which the ramifications of them have been there. That was the difficult component."

Blosil left a suicide note, and Marie did her greatest to summarize it: "He basically mentioned he realized that morning was the last time he would get up and clean his teeth, make his bed, those kinds of issues. He'd made his decision, I guess. And uh, [he wrote..that he loved his family ... The anguish was so intense."

Osmond also verified rumors that her son had attempted suicide while she was competing on 'Dancing With the Stars' in 2007. "During that time I was going through a very public divorce. Heading through custody battles ... and he gotten some information which something had occurred to some of his loved ones ... and that he couldn't deal with it. He promised however never do it again."
