Soon after being freed from the orphanage, she made the move to one more foster home. Breaking this succession of care, she married her lover Jimmy Dougherty on June the 19th, 1942. Being a sailor, Dougherty was soon despatched to the South Pacific and Monroe commenced to work in a armaments manufacturing facility in Burbank where she was spotted by a photographer. Subsequently they split in 1946 - the same year she agreed her original motion picture deal, with the motion picture deal she marketed herself as Marilyn Monroe and dyed her hair blonde. Nevertheless her big-screen career did not truly kick off till the 1950s, her minor role in John Huston's crime drama The Asphalt Jungle (1950) put her in the limelight. Soon Marilyn delighted cinema goers and producers alike in the role of Claudia Caswell in All About Eve, Marilyn Monroe accomplished celeb standing by way of major parts in 3 1953 movies - Niagara, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and How To Marry a Millionaire. Throughout the same period a variety of nude calendar photos, taken in 1948, appeared in the first ever issue of Playboy. Her personal problems, with failed marriages to baseball star Joe DiMaggio and playwright Arthur Miller led to an increasing reliance on drugs to combat depression and physical ailments. Her demons, and precarious involvement with people in high places, finally became too much for her. On August 5, 1962, she was found dead of an overdose of sleeping pills.
