Marketing At Outdoor Events

When it comes to festivals and outdoor events

, you think of music festivals like Woodstock, Glastonbury or V to name a few, or community events like farmers markets or summer fetes. But one thing you probably don't think about is marketing. Marketing at festivals is now big business, music festivals alone are worth over 1bn to the British economy every year. So it's no wonder that advertisers are using events like these to promote their brands.

There are many types of marketing done at these festivals, from the basic paper flyer to the full on corporate sponsoring of the event. So what do we do if we don't have the spending power of Virgin and we want to create a better brand image than using paper flyers?

Well two great ways to promote brand are festival flags and pop up marquees, or even better a combination of both. Pop up marquees are probably my favourite type of festival marketing, why? Well when it comes to the thousands of people at these events continually needing a meeting place if they get separated from their friends, what a great way for your brand to get remembered, "I'll meet you at the 'Your Brand' marquee". Having been to many festivals in the UK, I can say that another great advantage of this type of marketing is it provides a refuge from the great British weather for the festival goers, now that is a captive audience!

When it comes to the smaller community events the same things apply, but budgets are usually a lot smaller. But you would be surprised at the cost, most of the companies I've used or worked with, will sell you a standard pop up marquee with your own custom printing for around 500. Not that much to stand out from the crowd and have your staff protected from the elements.

Most marquees are made from flame retardant PU coated polyester and PVC, so they can be used again and again, therefore making them an even more cost effective form of marketing.

I'm always glad to hear from people with their questions and opinions on forms of event branding, if you are interested in festival or event marketing and have any questions regarding the best type of event branding for you, then I'm here to help.
