Marketing On Twitter - Is It A Great Way Of List Building?

A couple of ago, it was difficult to ignore the buzz online about Twitter marketing tools

. It was thought that Twitter was one of the best ways to build a list and to get folks to purchase the products you are promoting. But the question is, were any of those software packages that were sold, actually doing you any good? Precisely how great is Twitter marketing? This article will examine the case for becoming involved and to see if it will actually repay your time and effort.

Like many of you, when all the tools came out to help people build a big Twitter following that you could promote to, I decided to check out. I joined programs that promised to get me followers on Twitter and purchased software tools to help promote my products. By the time I was finished, I'd spent money on something like eight programs to do some of the grunt work involved in Twitter marketing.

The first program I invested in allowed me to automatically follow people in the hopes that they would then return the favor and follow me. If someone was not following me, I had another tool that would automatically take them off my to-follow list. This way I could be following those who might follow me back. Several of the software I invested in are not interesting enough to talk about but I will just mention a helpful program that auto-Tweeted any blog posts I made each time they were published. And when I started using all of these tools the results seemed to be impressive since they all did precisely what they said they would do. I was rapidly brought down to earth when I checked my spreadsheet and saw that I wasn't actually generating any money! Each day I would post roughly ten blog entries knowing that they would then automatically be shown on Twitter as well. Then I found a way to have all the posts done for me automatically, assuming that the more posts I would have the more people who would see them.

The results of my attempts are as follows: In three years, I was able to have a Twitter following of moreo r less ten thousand people. You might be really pleased to achieve that number of followers, but there's more to come. During those three years I had affiliate links to my products on at least 15,000 blog posts in my Twitter account. And that was the only promoting that I did for that blog, I opted not to even ping the posts to see exactly what Twitter could do for me. Well, you can't say that 3 years isn't long enough to obtain modest results but using Twitter I just got 2 - 4 visitors every day to my blog. My affiliate earnings from 2 transactions was $47 and to that you can add $8.65 Adsense revenue - pretty dismal all around!


In a nutshell, having roughly ten thousand followers on Twitter using all these programs will not give you the results you want. At the end of the day I'm now out of cash for the Twitter software tools I paid for because my dollar return was so dismal. So in my personal opinion, though there may be good ways to promote on Twitter, using the automatic softwares are not the way to go.
