Marketing Reconnaissance Pt 2/3
(This is a series of 3 posts about effective Marketing strategies for your business
, that don't have to cost a bundle. Part One is on the Topic of Marketing Reconnaissance)
Included in this post are a few ideas to Deploy/try on for size, and a few Keys to Success.
I do however need to share the simplest of Life's Keys my folks taught me : "Always arrive on time or early and always say Please and Thank you!" These simple ideals go a LONG way in business and life! Now, onto the Blog...
Creatively package your marketing campaigns. A postcard is one way to market your business, but reminiscing on my radio days, disc jockeys would send a "shoe" to the Program Director with a note that read, "I'll do anything to get my foot in the door." Now I know, that is ultra-cheesy but it illuminates the idea that you need to think outside the box, and your marketing campaigns will have more impact. Now, as you read my ramblings you will notice that I use clichs. I find that they just flow from my fingertips. The "outside the box" line reminds me of an NAB Panel in Las Vegas I had the privilege of participating on about Non Traditional Revenue. One of the other panelists made a statement that I have kept with me to this day. He said instead of hiring an "out-of-the-box thinker" he would rather hire the individual that did not see/know there was a box in the first place! Back to the topic of getting noticed, don't be afraid to see what people in other industries are doing and find a meaningful way to adapt that to your business. Think about the little details that will get attention.
Keys to success: Set a clear objective for your marketing campaign, and identify how you'll measure its success. Then follow up to measure the results and adjust what and how you are doing it if necessary.
Get the word out with free publicity. Think you can't do PR or publicity without employing the services of a PR Firm? You can! Although a good firm brings tremendous contacts and experience, most small companies can do enough PR on their own to spark the public's interest. The web is becoming the great equalizer. There are so many tools available to everyone today you can certainly make a splash. We will look more closely at a few of these tools in future posts. For now, look into: PitchEngine (dot) com
Keys to success: In one word, leverage. Though it does happen, don't expect one story placement to generate thousands in revenue. Your success depends on telling your story over time; each article or post needs to live on your website. Create a "News Page" or a "What's New" area on your home page. And remember, PR is more cost-effective and more credible than advertising with customers, especially the Millennium babies who just don't believe the hype!
But wait, there's more. Don't miss the final segment in this epic trilogy of posts when I drop old school knowledge by way of a Law of 250 reference and sprinkle a few more Keys to Success.
