MARKHOR OR MIRKHORE.

Mirkur has been translated by some British author in Afghanistan as Markhur, meaning snake eater, Goats never in the history of the world have eaten snakes. This British or western misnomer in India like calling KAL KATTA AS CALKATTA AND host other miss pronunciation of Hindi, Urdu vocabulary. In my humble opinion it is Mirkhur meaning an animal either having stout legs or feet, this coincides with the given figures of the animal too; my basis to this logic is the ancestral revenue record of Kashmir or cashmere pronounced by the British. We have records of people even now being called under the surname Mirkhur. Mir may mean big or beautiful or stout ,I leave it to linguists to decide but Knur in Kashmiri means Foot, Thus the misnomer of the word is explained,

origin in kashmir or Afganistan.

We in future correct the literature and all encyclopaedias to put the records straight. The origin of this ancestral goat or the Mirkhur or Markhorhe can be the hills of kashmir, Their descend to Afghanistan can be explained as in the history many Afghans have invaded Kashmir but no King of Kashmir has ever harmed or invaded another country least the Afghanistan. It is my submission to all of the readers and the viewers to investigate this historical definition of the Markhur. The Pashtu word simile as mar meaning snake and khore meaning eating does not fit the definition of a goat who browses and is a ruminant, A timid animals which is bitten by the snake or even engulfed by the bigger snake. Further to support my point the Marcher has three sub classes on the basis of horn shape and size. The first type is called SOLEMAN markhur. We have a hillock in Srinagar city now called as Suleiman takht i.e. the throne of soleman.

origin of the word and goat

Many historian have given many explanations to it and I neither agree nor refute any one of them ,but yes put here most humbly the ancestral records clear that markhor HAS origin in Kashmir. The Suleiman markhor (Capra falconer jerdoni)The other type called Kabul markhor may be the cross bred born in Afganistan. It is called or categorized as copra falconeri megaceros, the other type is Pir panjal markhor capra falconeri chashmiriences having true spiral horns . This is found in Huza and Hindi hush supporting my views of its migration from Cashmeres to Afghanistan and not vice versa. However I leave it to the historian to decide the truth. Here are clear the three types have evolved out of some crossing over going the genes. The crossing with goats cannot be ruled out and thus the question whether we can breed Marcher with goats is answered in affirmative.

DNA RESEARCH IN AUSTRIA

Recently a paper from Austria ecology institute from on Fr.Sabine Hammer, who reveals the yes answer through mitochondria DNA mapping,Kashmir, the Pir Panjal markhor is found only in the Pir Panjal Range, the Kay-I-nag and Shamshabari Karan mountains of north-western Himalaya, but extends into the Greater Himalayan range in Pakistan near Nanga Parbat. No range-wide survey had been conducted to assess the status and distribution of the species, although some localized surveys by the Jammu and Kashmir State Wildlife Department estimated close to 200 animals in J&K during the early 1980s.

survey results

The recent survey published and conducted by the WTI puts the numbers to 35now in groups of 4.Thus reducing the 200 1nimals of 1980 to 163 only. The decline of 60 in 20 years now is unbelievable for the ancestor of a species the goat who has record of inceasing in numbers of the world map inspite of the fact that they are slaughtered at ahigher rate of 33% EVERY YEARS,Thus our hypothesis to breed the Markhor with the native goat shall restore the fertility in the dieing markhor and decrese the number of the local goats eating upon the share of the poor frightened Markhor .The majestic look as read in the blog may help the markhore to attract the herms of the female gots left to be bred in all location of the markurre sacturaies. They have described the survey in a scientific and convincing manner.Inspite of the difficulities of being a conflict zone between armies the survey conducted gives meticulous details of the methods used and even some photographic evidences.

review of a booklet

The booklet is named Goats of the border .It is a rapid assessment of the pirpanjal markhor in Jammu and Kashmir. The war zone in the habitat of the Marcher has to be resolved now if not for any reasons to save the markhor is the one big single reason before us. I once again request the world of warriors to show their strength in feeding the poor and have-not and not inciting conflict to extinct the species and the humans. I repeat some of the points from the executive summary of the document. It reads .The survey confirmed the presence of the markhor in the Kaji-nag and Hirpura blocks. The reasons for its threats are the poaching, overgrazing by other animals and constant conflict at the border. They suggest that collaborative efforts to conserve this species have to be worked out with Indian security forces. The situation on the other side of the border may not be different inspire of them having declared Marcher as their national animal.

The resolve

Let us all resolve to save this dyeing species. Another clues to my topic for the day is cleared by the report of WTI ,the overgrazing factor they have mentioned can be a possible way to preserve some of the gene through cross breeding with goats. If we let loose some goats in the area for the season or two we may get some pregnancies to have the genes. When a race in the world comes to our Aryan descendents in a remote village in Kashmir to have the pure Aryan blood in this century ,there is harm to try some gene recovery through cross breeding. We may only allurer the bucks or the males at first as sending buck may make our results doubtful and more over for the rutting fighting behaviour may not be desirable .The said report of the WTI is excellently written and I request my readers to ask for a copy and read it. May I request you the readers to inform me about your views on crossbreeding AND Nomenclature of the markhor to mirkhor on my email given above.
