Tell people that you are having marriage problems and one of the first things out of their mouth
, will probably be marriage counseling. Marriage counseling is not the answer to everyone's marriage problems, as a matter of fact it can do very little to repair a marriage.
This is because a marriage counselor is viewed similarly to a physician, like they're someone who's going to heal the problem. Mainly a marriage counselor, similar to other counselors, will be a listener and then offer some tools for you to be able to fix it yourself.
Not to say that there's any problem with going to a marriage counselor but they are just providing the exercises you need to do your own healing. Really there are only a small number who are actually good at this even though it seems there are a lot of them available.
A much cheaper alternative to marriage counseling and therapy is to get books and tapes that will give you the tools you will need to help repair your marriage and help you get through the rough patches. Some marriage counseling tools are specifically designed to be used by one partner while others are designed to be used by both. Since one of the biggest issues in a marriage tends to be with the communication, you can use different communication techniques to elicit different responses from your partner and change the communication in your marriage, even if at first your spouse is unwilling to participate in the process.
If those communication techniques start to work hopefully the other partner will become a willing participant in order to make the marriage stronger, a benefit for both. You don't have to spend a lot of money on marriage counseling, go get some of these books and begin the process to fix yourself and your marriage.
