What is a Marriage Encounter Weekend?

Imagine waking up and looking at your soul mate's face glowing after having spent a quite evening together with no distractions from family, friends or work. As you lie there gazing into your spouse's face you see a glimpse of the past and feelings of unconditional love begin to return and you see hope for a great marriage and future together.

Well, a marriage encounter weekend is designed to give you an opportunity to focus on your marriage, in particular, the communication aspect of your relationship.

What happens on a Marriage Encounter weekend?

I can tell you that if you are worried that you will have to talk openly about your marriage and the problems you encounter, you can stop worrying. My experience and understanding of the weekend format is that it's more about you and your spouse enhancing your relationship with each other.

There generally is a series of presentations and discussions where couples who are coordinating the weekend talk. Then couples participating on the marriage encounter weekend personalize the topic or discussion (in private).

There is no pressure to openly discuss anything and trust me there will be couples there who are more than willing to offer up opinions and thoughts. You could probably avoid saying anything in a group setting if that's your desire.

What's the cost of a marriage encounter weekend?

The one I attended costs a couple of dollars for the 2 day stay at the hotel. There will be an opportunity for couples to make a donation at the end of the weekend to help offset the cost of the weekend.

I would encourage you to look into the format or requirements for the weekends held in your state because it might be structured a little different.

On our weekend, it was held at a very nice Hotel and 3 full course meals were served each day.

Is a Marriage Encounter weekend for everyone?

Probably not! However, I can't see how any couple would be worse off after attending. If their marriage is worse then they probably weren't trying at all to get the most out of the weekend.

So to sum it all up I can tell you that the marriage encounter weekend we attended was fantastic. It definitely can help improve your marriage.
