Marsaxlokk lies in the Southeastern portion of the island of malta. This is a beautiful fishing village and one of the oldest ports in Malta, with the population of 3,277 people. Marsaxlokk comes from two words. The Arabic word Mersa, meaning harbor and Xlokk meaning south east wind. Resulting in Marsaxlokk- harbor with the south east wind.. The second largest natural harbor in Malta.

Fishing is the main business of the Marsaxlokk people. This calm and serene village proudly exhibits its deep rooted traditions. Marsaxlokk people form strong communities that rely on each other. The population has grown in nearby villages which has decreased the fishing industry somewhat. Still, Malta's major fish supplies are sufficed by the fish caught in this picturesque fishing harbor. During the spring the haul of Lampuki, Swordfish and Tuna are still quite impressive. A fish market is held on Sundays on the open quay selling the fresh catch. The colorfully ornate boats pepper the harbor, giving a unique and extraordinary view to both locals and visitors.

There are many regions of traveler attention scattered in and around town. On the town square stands the statue of St Andrews, the patron saint of fishermen of Marsaxlokk.
