Maruti Eeco Test Drive

Maruti Eeco Test Drive

Maruti Eeco Test Drive

Under the hood is lot of unusable space. Open the bonnet to find only the reservoirs for the coolant, washer fluid and brake fluid. Like the Omni, the engine is mounted beneath the cab. The front mid engine rear wheel drive layout of Eeco enables more cabin space, more boot space and much need traction. The gasoline filler is just above the right front wheel. The engine is the well known G-series which served the cars like Swift. The displacement of 1.3L G-series engine is scaled down to avail the small car excise duty.Eeco develops 73bhp of peak power at 6000rpm and 101Nm of peak torque at 3000rpm. A five speed manual transmission is teamed up with this engine. The rear wheel drive vehicle pulls up easily in first and second gears. Though the engine refinement is nothing to boast about, it is clearly best the passenger mover segment (read winger, omni).

Historically the rear wheel drive (RWD) is said to be more fun to drive. Eeco is a rear wheel drive vehicle but is not meant for that. Eeco is undertyred and runs on 155 R13 tubeless tyres. The skinny tyres (also the lack of allloy wheels) spoils the looks to.

Unlike the Versa, Maruti Eeco lacks the power steering which means you have to work out heavily not in gym but with hard steering wheel to sneak trhough the traffic. But Eeco is easy to park with smaller turning radius and also it takes up less road space.

If you think, Eeco is more prone to roll because of the tall wagon silohuette, the think again. Eeco handles corners with ease. Eeco occupants never felt frightned during our test drive. Ventilated disc and drum brakes at the rear offers the required bite.Eeco is available in six colours superior white, metallic midnight black, metallic silky silver, bright red, metallic blue blaze and metallic glistening grey.

The dual tone styling gives Eeco an upmarket look. The hard plastics are meant to last longer than nice looking. The sliding driver seats and larger steerign wheel enusures comfortable driving position which is nothing short of commanding. The gearstick is high mounted and is easy to use. Overall visibility is good with large glass areas. Sliding doors for rear passengers enables you to pick-up people even at narrow roads.Though the Eeco is only 3675mm long, it offers generous cabin space. The second row offers good legroom and headroom. Three at the second row could be a tight squeeze. Getting into the third row doesn't demands any work from you (like in Winger or Innova), Passengers can just walk-in.Three can sit comfortably in the third row but the legroom is just about adequate. Taller passengers could find it difficult to sit for longer duration.

The front suspension is all-independent with the conventional MacPherson strut and the rear suspension is a non-independent, three-link, live axle with coil springs. The ride quality is decent and vibration is completely insulated. But the noise and heat of the motor creeps into the cabin freely. Luggage space is available even in a seven seater Eeco. even in Eeco features a small glove-box but lacks cubbyholes and door packets.

Eeco is a no-frill van which means overhead rear airconditioner vents, music player, power windows and central locking are visible absentees in the features list.

Eeco features includes both side sunvisor, dual tone interiors, reclining front seats and air conditioner.Eeco is available in three variants Maruti Eeco Test Drive 5 Seater Standard, Eeco 5 Seater AC and Eeco 7 Seater Standard (no A/C). Killer price is how we can call.Eeco is very sensitively priced. Eeco 5 Seater Standard is priced at Rs2.59lakhs, 7 Seater Standard for Rs2.75 lakhs and 5 Seater AC at Rs 2.89 lakhs.

Eeco not a status symbol, not a fun-to-drive vehicle and certainly not for safety conscious people. Yet, Eeco is sure to set the saleschart on fire. Coz .. there is an India and a Bharat. While the swanky styling, exotic features and fun driving dominates the Indian customer.

Customer who belongs to Bharat looks for practicality. Maruti success not just lies in Swift and Ritz but also through models like Omni and 800. For office car ppol or camping Eeco could be the ideal choice for many.
