Maruti Swift in India
India's largest selling car maker Maruti Suzuki is a leader even when it comes to the production of compact cars. 21 engineers and designers from the company got together to create the unique model. With some of the most advanced features, Swift was created and the beautiful blend of Japanese technology and European styling is clearly visible in the end product. The result can be viewed as an innovative, athletic and graceful design.
The new car was still designed to be very Indian. The designers kept in mind the needs of the Indian car buyer. Also keeping in mind the Indian roads, the engineers modified the suspension in a way best suitable for the Indian roads and they were very generous with the ground clearance. Unlike cars in other countries, less space below the automobile can damage it. The new chassis for the Indian version of the Swift was developed and put to meticulous track tests. And finally, after all the painstaking, an all-new car came into the Indian market, the Maruti Swift.
The Maruti Swift entered India in 2005 and has since then won plenty of awards including 'the car of the year,' from various motoring associations like Overdrive, CNBC Autocar and BBC-Top Gear, for its comfort, safety features and concept car like styling. The successful Swift is available in five versions in India which very well comply with the new Bharat Stage III and Bharat Stage IV emission norms. The variants are LXi, VXi, ZXi (petrol), and LDi and VDi (diesel). These variants of the Swift are differentiated by their levels of safety and comfort.
Not just great comfort and safety features, the Maruti Swift also comes at a very competitive price. The aggressive price for such a great car is what lures the average Indian towards it. Also, we see how Maruti has been careful enough to embed an engine that's compliant with emission norms in India. The competition in the auto industry is as tough as ever, and, the Swift has a good number of competitors like the Tata Indica Vista and Chevy Aveo U-VA.
The Maruti Swift is peppy in traffic and real smooth on the highway. With the 5-speed manual transmission, comfortable drives even on the humpy and bumpy roads of India are guaranteed. The 1.3L engine churns out 87 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm, contributing to a smooth ride. Standing by its name, the Swift is real swift when it comes to performance. It can jump from 0-100 kmph in just 10 seconds and can put on show a maximum speed of 160 kmph. The mileage is simply great. What more can India expect? The Swift returns 11 kmpl in city conditions and 13 km on highway.
