Maruti to ramp up output by 10 per cent from Oct

Maruti Suzuki, country's largest carmaker, intends to increase its output by about

10 per cent for producing over 1.1 lakh units every month from October. If this is achieved, the annual production of the company will be more than 13 lakh units in 2011-12 in comparison to that of around 12 lakh units planned for this fiscal. As per the industry sources, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has already started the work for ramping up its production from last month. A source was quoted saying that many of the company's cars have long waiting periods. In order to speed up the delivery, MSI is ramping the capacity in both Gurgaon and Manesar plants.

Maruti Swift and Ritz, the hatchbacks of Maruti Suzuki have 3-4 months and 1-2 months of waiting period respectively. The customers are waiting for 4-5 months to own the sedan DZiRE and MSI is taking about 5 months to deliver the multi-purpose vehicle Eeco. The source say that if the market remains buoyant and the company keeps producing at current level, MSI's annual output will surely cross 13 lakh units in the next fiscal. Presently, MSI has an annual capacity of 8.5 lakh units at its Gurgaon plant. The Manesar plant can produce 3.5 lakh units annually. A spokesperson of MSi said that they have been working on de-bottlenecking and streamlining our production operations to induce higher productivity levels. Some of the specific initiatives include relocating and shuffling production between Gurgaon and Manesar.

As per the figures released by SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers), production of the company during the April-August period has jumped 24.79 per cent to 4,92,562 units from 3,94,724 units in an year-ago period. MSI had also announced last week that it will invest Rs 1,925 crore to set up a third plant inside the Manesar facility. Currently, MSI is investing Rs 1,700 crore on a second plant at Manesar.
