Mastectomy Bras - Sexy, Stylish and Serviceable
When you have had a mastectomy it can shake your confidence. Many women feel as if they have lost part of their female identity along with their breast. Even a partial mastectomy can leave you feeling as if you are unsexy and cause a lot of negative self-talk. This is where modern mastectomy bras can really help to boost your self-image.
There's little doubt that sexy lingerie can make a woman feel that she's attractive, and if you have had a mastectomy this is certainly the case. At one time the mastectomy bras available were serviceable, but little more. They did the job of keeping a prosthetic breast in place and created an outward balanced shape, but they didn't do much to make the wearer feel that she was attractive.
Initially after surgery the choice is limited, as for the first 6-8 weeks following your mastectomy you will be limited to a certain type of prosthetic and will need to use a bra that is soft and doesn't irritate your surgical scar. You may even find that you aren't able to wear a bra because of the constriction it places on your chest. However, after a few weeks, this should start to wear off and you will be able to wear a soft fibre filled prosthetic and bra.
Bra fitting is important
Getting the right size bra is imperative. If you have had a single mastectomy then your prosthetic breast should be the same size as your remaining breast, and consequently the cup size should be the same as you used to have. If, on the other hand, you have had to undergo a double mastecomy, then you will be able to choose what size of cup you prefer but this shouldn't be more than one cup size smaller that you used to be.
Mastectomy bras are designed with small pockets into which the prosthetic breast(s) are placed. It's important that the right size is chosen so that the breast form fits into the pocket in a position that allows it to fit snug against the chest without moving around. As with ordinary bras, it's essential that you get measured correctly. You should also make sure that you read the size guide for each manufacturer you buy from as these can substantially differ and in order to feel confident that your breasts look balanced, you must order according to the measurements of the manufacturer you choose to buy from.
Once you know what cup size you are, you will be able to find bras that will give you the confidence to move on with your life as well as provide the support you need for your breast prosthesis.
