According to the Material Handling Industry Association (MHIA)

, material handling IA is defined as "the movement, storage, control and protection of materials, goods and products throughout the process of manufacturing, distribution, consumption and disposal". When you would hear material handling IA, usually the first thing that comes into mind would usually be manufacturing equipment like "" Belt Conveyors IA, Bridge Cranes NE, Hoists MO and Overhead Conveyors KS "" which is true. However, there is more to Material Handling IA than just transporting goods. Material Handling IA also refers to storage of materials in racks or crates, packaging of products, shipping and inventory control also qualify as material handling IA. Given that, we could say that Material Handling equipment can be classified into two types: Material handling for movement and material handling for storage.

Material Handling equipment used for storage include racks, bins, containers, packaging material like boxes, crates and others of the sort. Storage is used for the protection and preservation of a certain good. It is mainly used as a means for holding a certain good until the time it gets transferred to its receiver.

Material handling equipment used for movement, as the name says, is mainly for the transportation of goods and other material from one point to another in the fastest and most convenient way, minimizing the risk of accidents from occurring. Some examples would be Belt Bridge Cranes NE, Hoists MO, Conveyors IA, and Overhead Conveyors KS. In order to operate these sort of equipment, would usually involve the use of machinery. Some make use of a track like Belt Conveyors IA and others make use of chains or other means in order to suspend certain items like Bridge Hoists MO and Cranes NE.

As time pass, the use of Material handling equipment have evolved and innovated in order to increase productivity but applying less effort and minimize any hazards happening among the staff. Even Material Handling equipment, the very equipment that handles the transport, storage and assembly of your daily items has come from material handling equipment themselves. You could say that it is because of Material handling equipment that everything else has originated from. They could be our "unsung heroes" because without them, how would businesses progress and meet the limitless demand of the public. Without them there would be more people being abused for hard labour. So With material handling equipment, some jobs have become easier to handle and more and more innovations are made to help the world go around
