Measures To Take When Your Cat Reacts Unreasonably Upon Hearing Startling Sounds

There might be many instances when you were playing your wonderful symphony beneath the piano lamp or piano lamps with your beloved kitty next to you

. That may be a comforting sound to your cat, but they often get startled by sudden loud noises. It's not simple for them to catch what these sudden and varied loud sounds mean. Upon hearing such sounds, cats are mostly in a complete bedlam as to what they should do and where to hide in order to protect themselves from the sounds. Besides, cats have receptive hearing.

It may happen at times that your kitty can become used to some loud sounds on her own. Yet at times, the intensity can startle it which can gradually develop into a fear. When a cat is frightened, it is not much different from a child who has encountered something overpowering and frightening. It actually requires your attention at that moment as it cannot understand by itself that there is nothing to worry about.

But if your cat becomes frightened, you can certainly help it get over cringing, hiding and freaking out reactions on hearing a spontaneous loud sound. The most common sounds that can tentatively scare your cat are that of thunder and fireworks. However, some artificial sounds such as that of a building instrument can also raise the fur of your kitty. What you can do is either eliminate the source of sound or if that is not in your control then at least try to soothe the kitty. Here are a few important steps you can take:

Try to keep your kitty away from the source of the noise. It's good to take it to a centralized room where the noise is less.

You can also try to soothe it by playing some soft music. For instance, the sound of the harp is quite soothing to the animals.

You can be the best distraction when your cat is scared because they look up to humans as a maternal substitute. So pet and distract the cat until the noise reduces.

If you still think that there is some anxiety left subsequent to the original startling effect, then this can be a long-term fear. You can desensitize your kitty to loud noises by exposing it to the low volume of the same sound and then gradually enhancing it overtime. This will familiarize the cat to that sound and then it will not react the same way. Even while the exposure, you can soothe or distract your kitty. Another idea is to tempt your cat by offering a special token as a gift for what it has endured.

The desensitization is required for around all loud sounds, but you may need to repeat the procedure depending upon how arousing the sound is for your cat. One thing worth noting is that all cats don't respond the same way. But generally speaking, your cat will be less likely to fret such anxiety-provoking sounds and not react anxiously.
