Medical Transcription At Home Is Great
It is no new news to anyone in the country that the economy has hit rock bottom
. Everyone is looking for work and it is really a tough market out there for an administrative assistant. Newly graduated MBAs are even looking to be an administrative assistant and so with that stiff competition; its really hard to get a job, let alone a good-paying job.
I currently work for the state of California, full-time. Recently, we were hit with pay cuts and mandatory furloughs, which made state workers lose about 15% of our pay across the board, including managers and the regular rank and file. I also travel an hour from home to work each morning and an hour back each night on the train, which takes me out of my own house for 12 hours a day. I rarely get to spend time with my family, even if I am recently married. I sought other means to compensate for the shortage in pay, without having to sacrifice even more time out of my home. I recently started working a home business, but it has been slow going. Unfortunately for me, I do not think selling is my specialty. And spending the fees on the monthly overhead and advertisements that really gained nothing back for me is also getting to be a little annoying.
I came across an article on the Internet about legitimate work-at-home or home typist jobs and found that medical transcribers can work from home and make a decent wage. I had always thought about this, but was afraid to try because of the cost and the time it would take to train. But I came across Future MTs website and noticed that the tuition was fairly low lower than I had expected, and they even offered free tuition through a sweepstakes contest. That was a great incentive for me to step forward. I have always enjoyed helping people and the medical industry will always need workers. I believe that even though technology has come a long way to make things easier for doctors, they will always need transcribers because doctors are so busy and have so much work to do, they do not have the time to type up their own reports. Working in medical transcription at home would mean that I would have more time to spend with my family and not be so tired all the time, the flexibility of working from home in a legitimate job, and actually being able to be proud of what I do for doctors and specialists. Its a necessary job opportunity and there seems to be a shortage of medical transcribers, which would give someone who graduates from this program an excellent opportunity to get a very stable job. I would still be able to have my day job, but I would not be so dependent upon it and so stressed when they start mentioning pay cuts. I may welcome the furloughs because that would give me more time to work the medical transcription job and have some extra free time for my family.
In the future, my husband and I plan to move out of state. We are getting tired of the games the government plays with our pay and benefits. But being a medical transcriber would allow me to move without worry about income. I would be able to work anywhere, even in Alaska if I had the inclination. In the future, I hope to inspire others to pursue this avenue of medical transcription by sharing my story. Maybe I will pursue a degree or open my own business. Because I am taking this first step, those options are all open to me.
