In a troubled economy, too often small firm owners would reduce worker benefits in order to save money. This action must be counter productive. Employees who feel unappreciated must eventually resent the employer and put forth less effort than they can if they were satisfied with their working climate and benefits package. A business that has never provided health benefits can generally not suffer from serious morale issues. On the other hand, taking away medical benefits that were once provided to employees should cause an irrevocable change in the way workers view their employers. Inevitably, the bottom line of the corporation would be adversely affected

Employees who are provided with medical health coverage are able to seek preventative care and historically miss less work than those who do not receive health insurance. This translates to a more productive work climate. When an employee is thriving well, the company does, too. Small establishment owners who elect to pay a portion of the health insurance benefits for their workers could now find a higher return on their investment. The new "Small Business Health Care Tax Credit" allows community businesses to cash in on a tax credit when health insurance coverage is given to professionals. Businesses must pay at least half of the insurance premiums for their professionals in order to qualify for the tax credit.

Qualifying companies generally employ less than 25 full time workers with average annual wages below $50,000 per year. This new tax credit could help professionals receive the insurance coverage they need while the employer receives the boost in business morale they desire.
