Presently the lawsuit claims over casualties caused by contraceptive pills Yaz and Yasmin have touched the mark of nearly a billion dollars. The FDA had warned Bayer for its misleading advertisements. Later Bayer launched a campaign of USD 20 Million to correct the mistakes.

Presently there are over 12000 lawsuits against Bayer in different courts throughout USA. Most of the lawsuits are about wrong side effects by Yaz or Yasmin. Most of the patients allegedly suffered from:

Myocardial infarction or heart attack.

Ischemic stroke, which is likely to be caused by blood clots.

Kidney failure.

Gall bladder disease.

Deep vein thrombosis.

There are more other allegations came over these two drugs. Most of the difficulties are seen to be caused by blood clots.

Yasmin lawsuits have stated that the drug contains a diuretic, drospirenone, which blocks hormone aldosterone. This causes dehydration and increases the potassium level. The lawsuits have clearly mentioned that the manufacturing company completely ignored these fatal effects of the medicine which cost several lives in US and outside also.

There are several lawsuits booked against Bayer in the fields of Pharmaceutical frauds, bad drug and product liabilities. Several cases have been found where women felt uneasy or developed problems when they switched to Yaz or Yasmin from some other drugs.

Some claimed to have problem with Yaz when they started taking it as an alternate to Yasmin.

According to the report, Bayer has solved a little over 1200 cases so far. Many other cases are pending due to the Federal multidistrict litigation under US District court in the District of Illinois. One can easily guess that it would take quite a long time and more money will be spent over compensation issues. But the question is, would the sufferings of the affected people really be covered by that?
