Mediterranean Bank Network at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean

RABAT, MOROCCO - Following an invitation by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, Ms Catherine Tourkia, Chairman, Mediterranean Bank Network (MBN) made a detailed presentation outlining the Mediterranean Bank Network's aims and objectives, its members, their markets and international presence.

The PAM session was inaugurated by the PAM President, Hon. Rudy Salles (France), the President of the Chamber of Representatives of Morocco, H.E. Hon. Abdelwahed Radi and H.E. Hon. Mohammed Cheik Biadillah, President of the Chamber of Councillors. The event was hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco Parliament.

Mediterranean Bank Network is soon to celebrate its fifteenth year since it was established in the spirit of the EU's Barcelona Declaration: Euro-Mediterranean Partnership'. The Network was established in November 1996 one year after and as a direct result of the 1995 Barcelona Declaration. It is a non-profit banking organisation and strategic partnership between leading Mediterranean banks and is designed to promote inter-regional commercial and business relationships amongst its members. Each member bank enjoys sole and exclusive representation of its country of origin. The partnership is based on the core values of 'cooperation', 'communication' 'commitment' and 'sharing'. The strength, size, market position, expertise and reputation of these banks is a huge resource at the disposition of all members. To date, the total number of countries in which these banks are present as subsidiary banks, affiliation and representative office exceed 55 countries. Recent new members include BPCE Banque Populaire (2009) representing France and Banque Centrale Populaire Maroc (2010) representing Morocco.
