Mediterranean music

The Mediterranean was often considered and seen as a single cultural area, but this is far from the truth. Because it spans through three very different regions, southern Europe, North Africa and the western parts of Asia, the music of these parts is very various, rich and unique. This diversity is what it makes it so special, how it manages to coexist, learning about the others and ignoring them. The question is, of course, what to Mediterranean countries have in common? They have six thousand years of history together, during which they came into close contact and conflicts with one another, encountering each others art. An example of this mixes can be seen in mizrakhit music, where the Hebrew language is mixed with elements from Arab music, a combination which is hard to come across in any other aspect.
