, you got attracted to some of them, you went to Russia to meet them, you made your choice, and the girl agreed to become your wife. You proposed to your lady and she said yes. You arrived home. What now? The most important thing is to process all documents correctly, and INS will be able to help you with that. Check INS website http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis for the documents you need to file to get her to be in the country legally. But what about the simple things, things you sometimes just dont think about? Things you dot so accustomed to you do them almost without thinking? Those things may be automatic for you but not for your Russian wife. Teach her American banking system. Though now Russia has more developed banking system then earlier, it is still different. Teach your wife how to write checks, how to make deposits and withdrawals, how to use credit cards, etc. Discuss your family financial situation and decide together how you are going to spend money. Explain the sales, clearances, and other related issues. How will she move around? If you live in a big city and there is public transportation, you need to teach her how to buy tickets and passes. If you leave in an area where to go places requires a car you need to get her a car and teach her how to drive it if she never drove before. While doing all that, remember that Russians dont give directions referring to West, East, North or South but use right-left instead. Show her how to adjust thermostat and explain how air conditioner/heater works. In Russia there is no need for air conditioning and heating is centralized with no personal control. Take her to the store and get whatever she may need. Remember that her hairdryer does not work in US because of the different voltage. Make sure she has all she needs fir her feminine needs. Find a college nearby and enroll her in an ESL course. The faster she learns the language, the easier it will be for her to get accustomed to her new life. You, on the other hand, can enroll in a course of Russian language. You should know by now that Russian ladies dress very different from Americans. So dont be surprised if she will overdress a little for the trip to the supermarket. After all, that is what you like about her to begin with her sense of style and beautiful taste in clothing. Accept and enjoy it because after a year or so she may (or may not) switch to more comfortable American way of dressing. And finally - meet her at the first city she flies in. Save her from all fear and panic when she finds herself in the unfamiliar surroundings. Meet her with champagne and flowers and that will set the tone for your whole family life ahead.
