According to the legends of Hinduism, Saraswati
, who is the daughter of Shiva and Durga, was the one responsible for endowing humans with powers of learning, wisdom and speech. She is depicted on many Saraswati wallpapers as a four handed goddess that represents the four aspects of human personality namely ego, alertness, intellect and mind. She also holds sacred scriptures in one of her hands and a lotus on the other, which said to be the symbol of real knowledge.
Known as the goddess of the arts and knowledge, Saraswati also symbolizes the wisdom sported by Devi. She enlivens the world's creations with a "river of consciousness" and dispels the darkness brought about by ignorance. Hindus believe that that there will be confusion and chaos if she is not around, which makes her highly important.
Saraswati wallpapers often show the goddess in a white sari as it symbolizes her purity and her denunciation of things that are materialistic. She goes beyond any desires of the flesh but relishes in the power of mind, which makes her indeed as the patron of wisdom. She also stands for all sublime and pure in nature.

He used her knowledge to maintain sacred laws and dharma to ensure a society's growth and stability. In Japan, Saraswati known as the Benzaiten, and worshipped as the deity guardian in Buddhism and is responsible in upholding Gautam Buddha's teachings.
