At first glance, Melaleuca seems like a great company. Their products are hailed as being safer, cheaper, and better quality than their rivals. Their business model has also been praised for being more geared towards helping executives grow a steady, residual income; rather than a "get rich quick" scheme. Melaleuca has faced strong criticism however, with allegations of being a scam; people claiming its not possible to make money, and that the products are a rip off.

Looking at the business model, it actually appears very difficult to NOT make money. Granted, you might not make millions of dollars, but you probably wont lose any. In order to make money with Melaleuca, you have to refer a customer to the company, and you will earn 7% commission from their bill. So by simply introducing your friend to Melaleuca, you can make money. The products Melaleuca make are everyday use products, such as beauty, bathing, cleaning, and so these constantly need replacing. This means Melaleuca have a very high monthly repurchase rate, and so it is incredibly likely that your referred customer will continue to shop with Melaleuca, resulting in a long term income for you. This doesn't scream scam in the slightest.

Even if you do not recommend any customers to the business, it still pays to be a Melaleuca customer. Melaleuca products tend to be better value for money than rival grocery store brands, meaning you are saving money by using them. As far as I can see, this is a win-win situation- you not only save money, but there is the possibility to earn whilst doing so. It appears that the only way to really lose money with Melaleuca is by buying their products, not using them, and not sending them back for a full refund. This seems like a safe, low risk business to become involved in.

It looks like the money making aspect of Melaleuca is definitely not a scam, but what about the rest of Melaleuca's business? Are customers and execs referred to the company under false pretenses? Are the products actually any good? Perhaps they are not such great value for money after all. Certainly, there are a number of complaints regarding their customer service from customers who've had bad experiences with Melaleuca, but does this constitute them as a scam?
