After an interesting qualifying session on Saturday the full grand prix did not disappoint. Whilst the winner was quite predictable what happened behind position one was very interesting. Surprisingly it actually got more interest after the race ended.

As everyone expected it was a Red Bull that won the race driven by 2010 world champion Sebastian Vettel. What was unexpected was that his team mate Mark Webber was way off the pace finishing in fifth place. Webber who started in third took second place from Hamilton on towards the first course and we started to believe that it would be a Red Bull one two. However Hamilton took the position back before the first corner and Webber went backwards from there.

The most interesting result of the day was when Vitaly Petrov pulled his Renault into third position. The Russian had a great race which was capped by finishing on the podium. The Renault team managed to capitalize on an extremely aggressive pit stop strategy which saw them climb the field whilst other stopped numerous times.

Fernando Alonso had a mixed day but he managed to finish fourth in the standings which is not a bad result for the first race of the year. Along with Webber the second biggest loser of the day was Jenson Button. He started from fourth on the grid and like Hamilton surprised everyone with the impressive qualification position. Button started poorly and got caught in a battle with Felipe Massa which saw him make an illegal overtaking challenge. Massa lost a further position due to the challenge and therefore Button could not give the place back.

As this event had happened Button was forced to take a drive through penalty which effectively

ended his race. Button crossed the line in sixth with a mountain to climb after the first race. He will take some comfort from his qualifying performance and the fact that until the drive through he was doing quite well.
