Melbourne Vs Sydney, Which Is The Nightlife Capital Of Sydney
The rivalry between Melbourne and Sydney exists on so many fronts
, be it which has the best fashion, football code, weather, schooners vs pints, traffic, job opportunities, lifestyle, architecture, public transport (well you get the message). Whilst these all may be important facets of a city metropolis, they all pale in comparison to the one true measure of a city's standard of living.
WHICH CITY HAS THE BEST BARS, NIGHTCLUBS and NIGHTLIFE?
If you ask anyone from Sydney, they'll swear hand on heart that they have the best bars, nightclubs and nightlife not only in Australia but the world, citing the relaxed culture, amazing beach side clubbing districts and impressive centres of clubbing being Kings Cross and Oxford Street.
Tell this to a Melbourne resident, and a look of distain will take hold of their demeanour as they point out Melbourne's bevy of hidden bars and cocktail bars the perforate the narrow laneways of Melbourne's CBD, the precincts of South Melbourne, Melbourne's CBD, Fitzroy and St Kilda as well as the quality of Melbourne's famed nightclubs.
So how do we objectively determine which is the clubbing capital of Australia? To find out we decided to undertake some research into the bar, nightclub and nightlife scene's of the respective cities to answer one and for all "Melbourne vs Sydney,Which is the clubbing capital of Australia?"
1. Google Searches
We decided to analyse the number of searches for bar, nightclub and clubbing related sites on Google. We figured the more searches, the more people are into clubbing as well as the people from out of town interested in heading out.
Melbourne - 4,480 per month
Sydney - 3,160 per month
2. Total Number of Real Bars and Nightclub
The more the better in our books, and according to us, the numbers were remarkably neck and neck, however given the smaller population of Melbourne, per capita, Melbourne wins this round.
Melbourne: 244
Sydney: 243
3. Weather
Whilst bars and nightclubs are indoors, the weather plays a big factor in ensuring a good night out. So we decided compare the weather in Melbourne and Sydney to find out once and for all, which city has better weather based on average temperature, rainfall etc. The statistics are in fact quite boring, so below is the summary:
Sydney: Better
Melbourne: Worse
4. Nightclub Violence
Google Nightclub violence and the first handful of results are from Melbourne (particularly South Melbourne). Whilst undoubtable Sydney also has its issues, the overwhelming media coverage regarding this issue has been centred on Melbourne. Perhaps it has to do with the Underbelly series or just Melbournians are angry about the weather, Sydney definitely wins this fight (pun is definitely intended.)
Sydney: Better
Melbourne: Worse
5. Beer Prices
Probably one of the most important factors when deciding whether Melbourne or Sydney is the bar, nightclub and night life capital of Australia. According to www.pintprice.com Melbourne is by and far more expensive then Sydney.
Sydney: $4.53
Melbourne: $5.41
So is Sydney or Melbourne better for bars, nightclubs and clubbing? Our conclusion is that Melbourne wins by a nose, but no doubt the debate will rage on.
