Memory May Be Improved In The Relaxed State

In the relaxed state, the ability of learning or remembering things would be improved because of memory-related neurons and specific brain waves.

The researchers selected eight volunteers for the research. They showed them 100 photos for just a second on each one. 15 to 30 minutes later, the researchers showed 100 photos again, half of the photos had been shown for volunteers, half of them were new photographs. The researchers asked volunteers to point out which photos they had saw and say the extent of determine on the answer. At the same time, the researchers recorded brain wave signal with EEG which is closely related with the memory and activities of neurons. The results showed that when the neuron and brain waves operated with the rate, the cognitive abilities would become stronger. Rutis Houser, who is from the California Institute of Technology, said we cant determine all the factors which impacted brain waves and neurons, but this study shows that there was a direct connection between human behaviors and the brain wave activity.

Previous studies have found that peoples brain can receive more new information in the relaxed state. Research from U.S. is the mathematical description that memory can be promoted in the relaxed state of neurons. When people were in relaxed state, daydreaming or drowsy, brain waves which were closely related to the learning ability and memory would emerge. As accurate data could be got only by using electrodes direct contact with the brain need to surface. So as usual, rats were used for previous studies to test brain waves. In this study, these eight volunteers were epilepsy patients who have received EEG test to diagnose epilepsy location. Besides, researchers had taken some protective measures, but these measures did not affect the final results.

The researchers said the results may contribute to the development of new therapies for people with learning disabilities or even dementia patients. One of the researchers called Schumann, a biologist from the California Institute of Technology, said many people had impairment on learning and memory, which may be affected with defects on brain waves. The study results can explain where defects they were. Schumann believed that if the patient was in a relaxed state, the doctor could try ways to activate the relevant brain regions, learning or remembering things may achieve good results.
