And speaking of your heart, another thing to remember is that cholesterol can become a problem as well, with the LDL becoming too high (thats the bad one). Exercise has been shown to help with circulation and lowering cholesterol overall, something you should consider especially if it runs in the family. High blood pressure is another of these cardiovascular diseases that strikes some women, and this also can be held in check with regular exercise. See your doctor for regular treatments and checkups of course, too.
If you havent heard, exercise is very good for your mental health as well, believe it or not. When you exercise, your body releases endorphins, a chemical that helps to elevate the mood and acts as a natural pain reliever in the body. This can greatly reduce the mild symptoms such as depression, irritability, mood swings, and decreased libido that are so common in menopausal women. Getting your regular dose of exercise really does feel good, once you get past the initial shock of starting it for the first time. If you havent done any exercise at all for many years, see your doctor first to be sure of your level of health and make sure you start out slowly.
